Relationship and Sexual Violence Awareness Section
All incoming first-year students (regardless of age) are required to complete this Relationship and Sexual Violence Awareness online learning module prior to arriving on campus. This section is designed to increase your understanding of consent, dating and relationship violence, sexual assault, stalking, and sexual harassment. It will also provide you with prevention strategies as well as support and advocacy resources.
Upon completion of this section, you should be able to:
- Define relationship violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, consent, and stalking, as well as list related behaviors for each based on Pennsylvania law and Penn State policy.
- Explain the concept of consent.
- Explain the connection between alcohol and drug use and sexual violence.
- Identify resources and services for relationship and sexual violence, sexual harassment, and stalking.
- Articulate the after effects of victimization and be sensitive to victim/survivor needs and concerns.
- Describe nonjudgmental, caring responses to victims/survivors of sexual violence.
- Describe the three D's of effective behavior for stepping in during a potentially harmful situation.
The content in the following chapters is about sexual and relationship violence, stalking and sexual harassment. The information may be emotionally challenging for some students.
